Betsy Atwell

MA, LPC, CSAC, ICS

Philosophy of practice:

In my practice, clients can expect to work on unravelling their past from their present and to develop a stronger ability to listen to their own internal wisdom. While blocking out your past can help you survive difficult times, it can also lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, PTSD, physical ailments, substance use, and more.

I am especially interested in helping clients with gender, sexuality, and neurodiversity related stressors. Pain and trauma around these parts of ourselves often develops when we attempt to conform to the expectations of society. I want to be your ally in developing self-acceptance around your identity.

Areas of Focus:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • PTSD

  • Substance use disorders

  • Gender and Sexuality and how they affect our relationships

  • Neurodiversity

Approaches:

I am trained in a number of evidence-based interventions.

  • Mind-body approaches such as

    • EMDR

    • Mindfulness-Based interventions

    • Emotional Freedom Technique

  • Executive functioning and cognitive approaches

    • Motivational Interviewing

    • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

To help us decide what YOU need, I routinely used Feedback Informed Treatment, a structured, client-centered process that helps us know if the work we're doing is effective.

Clinical Supervision:

I provide clinical supervision for new and experienced professionals. My credentials and experience allow me to sign off on required hours for training licenses for therapists, social workers, and substance use counselors. I can also supervise for some graduate programs, depending on the school. Please reach out to me at info@kindling-wellness.com if you would like explore this.
